The Building Maintenance Company has just completed the transfer to a new fleet of company vehicles for our engineers.
We looked at the rental cost of each van vs. its green credentials as part of the overall process as we were very keen to be as green as was practical. We reviewed the need for a roof rack on all the vehicles as our research showed that the fuel consumption was increased by approximately 10% when a roof rack was fitted due to additional “drag”. We also decided to fit speed restrictors on all the vehicles, limiting them to a maximum speed of 70 mph. This will reduce the amount of fuel used by our vans by up to 25%. Minimising our carbon footprint and being as green as we possibly can is very important to us and we don’t believe that there has to be a compromise between the environment and customer service and, ultimately, a profitable business.
